Since “Great Pumpkin” is already taken, we’ll call this one a very good pumpkin.

Yes, I am back after a long break I’m back and I would like to post the newest PCB post! So here it is:

Your Friday fix

Before we head into the weekend, we wanted to make sure you saw this:

Great Pumpkin Island

the info page for Great Pumpkin Island is up, with some cool new screenshots you haven’t seen before!

Great Pumpkin Island is coming very soon. You’ll hear the release date first right here on the official Poptropica blog!

avatar image
BLACK WIDOW

And there also seems like there is going to be another new island:

Generally speaking

Great Pumpkin Island is coming very soon, but every day isn’t Halloween at Poptropica HQ. We’re working on more new Islands for you to enjoy, too!

Need proof?

My, that’s one fine looking general store. It reminds me of the lovely seaside resort towns I used to ransack on Skullduggery Island. Those were the days. Nowadays it’s all fences and gated communities.

avatar image
CAPTAIN CRAWFISH

So now that I’m back from my break I’ll be posting more often and now that I have the time I’m going to announce that my assintant Jezzica Juarez will also be helping out here with other stuff.

Bye. C’Yall Later – Quick Berry

I’m sorry everyone but I’ll be taking a break I’ve been very busy lately so there will probably not be very much posting around here unless my staff decides to post a post other than that I wont be here much. I’ll be back in a few weeks maybe! 😦

Bye for now, Quick Berry.

What is this nonsense of Hub, Special Guest, and Twilight Vampires? Well let me tell  you!

Hub News:

The Hub of the universe

We’ve done a lot of detail work on the Hub for Steamworks Island. Before we can call it done, we’ve got to give it one more pass to make sure it’s got character.

Ah… that’s the stuff. The Hub looks old, weathered, and worn. It looks like it was once a city on a hill. Now, it’s grungy and decayed. And dangerous.

There are lots more to see and do on Steamworks Island, and we’ll be showing you more soon. In the meantime, maybe we can all try to figure out what that blue thing is doing.

Special Guest News:

A special guest is coming to Poptropica!

Greetings, Poptropica fans!
Recently, the creators of Poptropica learned of an
exciting new development: Next week, a special
guest is coming to Poptropica!

He’s well-known to many of you
(especially those of you who like to laugh)
for his hilarious adventures, not to mention his loony
friends and family.
Let’s be sure to welcome him when he arrives.
Expect more information on Monday, Poptropicans.
You won’t want to miss this!

Here are the two new post I call them Finishing The Hub:

Details, details…

The Hub on Steamworks Island continues to evolve. Now, all of the elements are colored in, and we’ve added some detail to try to tell the story of the island.

This version of the Hub is overgrown with vines and weeds. The wobbly angles of its structure are making it look like the whole thing could topple at any moment. And, of course, there’s now a sign telling everybody where they are.

Almost done!

avatar image
BINARY BARD

And Also….

Filling in the Hub

Time for a pop quiz: Can you tell the difference between the picture we posted yesterday and the one below?

Most of the background elements still look the same as they did yesterday: flat and monochromatic. We’re adding more detail to the Hub on Steamworks Island. We’ve colored in some of the more important foreground objects. They really pop off your screen!

That doorway in the upper-lefthand side of the screen looks mighty intriguing, wouldn’t you say?

avatar image
BINARY BARD

Well Bye! 😛

Here the two new post:

The Hub takes shape

The Hub started life as all of Poptropica does, as a simple idea and a sketch. Before long, we take that idea and turn it into reality. But did you know how many different revisions a single scene takes before it gets the Poptropica stamp of approval?

At first glance, this might look like a well developed scene.

But look a little more closely. Why is almost everything the same color? Why does it all look so flat? And what the heck is that blue thing on the right, anyway?

No, the Hub isn’t done yet. Not even close.

avatar image
BINARY BARDA

And….

What’s all the Hub-bub?

One of the places you’ll visit on Steamworks Island is what we call the Hub. It’s a sight to see! A rickety tower, a massive drawbridge, and pot-bellied steam stoves powering everything. Safe to say that you’ve never seen anything like the Hub before.

Er, at least, you won’t have seen anything like it. To start with, this marvel of modern engineering just looked like this:

Yes, it’s hard to see what all the hubbub is about — yet. Just wait until you see how this one develops!

avatar image
BINARY BARD

Yes there is a surprise well there is going to be a surprise! What kind of surprise you say? Well a Steamworks surprise!!!!! 😀  Here is the post:

A Steamworks surprise is coming

There’s a special treat coming tomorrow for Poptropica Members: a special Steamworks-related mystery item!

All will be revealed tomorrow. What could it be? The suspense is killing me!

…fortunately, I am well versed in suspenders.

COMIC KID

So you want to be free well here is the new post:

I want to be free

That’s not true: I want everything else to be free. In the Poptropica Store, I mean. Even though most of those sweet, sweet Gold Cards cost me my precious Credits, there are plenty of free items to go around.

Like mini-quests!

The avatar studio!

Candy canes!

Popgum!

(What is it, bubblegum week around here? Wake me up when there’s a carrot-flavored gum. Sheesh.)

Of course, for Poptropica Members, everything in the store is free, even costumes. But you knew that already.

DR. HARE

Well there is two new post one shows an animation of the plant monster from Steamworks Island attacking  and the other is about a new outfit!!! 🙂 😀 Anyway I can’t really show you the animation so I will give y’all a link!  Well here it is:

Steamworks monster animation test

Now that the we’ve decided what this plant monster should look like on the new Poptropica Island, Steamworks Island, the next step is to decide how the monster should move. We put together a quick and dirty animation test:

Animation

Bet you wouldn’t want to run into that thing in a dark alley!

All this has taken us nearly to the completion of a plant monster for Steamworks Island. We may still decide to change the monter’s behavior, or some aspects of its appearance. After a few final touches, we’ll put it all together — but you’ll have to wait until Steamworks Island launches to see it!

avatar image
HADES

And….

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…

I hope everyone is having a fun summer, while they squish red crabs on the beach. If you want to surprise your friends, try out the Hammerhead costume. It comes with a warm, limp fish.

New post:

Plant monster, attack!

We’ve got a pretty scary looking monster at this point, but what good is a monster if it can’t attack? This monster can swing its seed pods around from its head, before throwing them at you at high speed.

Looks like you’re pretty small next to this thing, doesn’t it? That’s not all — we haven’t even seen the plant monster in motion yet.

avatar image
HADES

Sorry but I’m in a hurry. 😦

Plant monsters again oh well here is the post:

Steamworks plant monster art

After settling on a sketch we liked, it was time for to give a little more life to the plant monster that will be menacing players on Steamworks Island.

Below are two approaches to the plant monster. Can you spot the differences between them?

Little details, like the color of the planter, and big ones, like the plant’s eye, can make a big difference in the monster’s appearance.

The next step: animation test!

avatar image
HADES

And….

Steamworks monster sketch

Yesterday, you saw some of the earliest ideas for the plant monsters that will appear on the next Poptropica island, Steamworks Island. This one seemed appropriately icky.

It’s still no more than a sketch — just an outline of an idea. But we’re already thinking about how the plant will look when it’s colored and detailed, and how it will move. The next step is to take this sketch and Poptropica-ize it!

avatar image
HADES

Well here are some sketches of a monster thats going to apear in the upcoming island Steamworks Island:

Evolution of a Steamworks Island monster

For Steamworks Island, the we’ll pit you against a variety of mutated plant monsters. But how did we make the creepiest, crawliest, ickiest plant monsters around?

We started by brainstorming.

These are just some of the sketches we drew to help us visualize what our monstrous creations would look like. Not all of the sketches will make it into the final product — in fact, most won’t — but this allows us to try out different ideas. Then we’ll take the very best concepts and work them into Poptropica.

Here is the dynamite gadget in color:

New island sneak peek week: It’s the bomb

Yesterday to keep the sneak peeks rolling out the door, we showed concept sketches of dynamite for the new island.

Here is the finished version. This is something that you are not allowed to hold while chasing your brothers around the campfire.

Look at all those gauges and wires. I had to read a 500 page manual to learn how to use it properly. Though, I accidentally discovered that throwing it works too.

Now that you’ve seen a glimpse of the design style of some of these items, can you guess what kind of island this is going to be?

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the announcement of the new island name!

Here’s another sneak peek of another gadget:

New island sneak peek week: It’s dynamite!

You dyna-might want to take a look at this next item. Ok, I know that was a terrible joke.

Take a gander at these sketches of dynamite. This explosive gadget is a little more complicated than the stick of clay you are used to seeing.

Come back tomorrow to see the final image of this dynamite with some color. And don’t forget that on Friday, we’re revealing the name of the new island for the first time.

It looks more like a fireworks to me.

Here is another sneak peek on the multi tool:

New island sneak peek week: The Multi Tool

Yesterday, we introduced a handy tool that you will need for the next Poptropica island, called the “Multi Tool.” I can imagine that you may be thinking, “Multi Tool?…Hmmm…It must be used for multiple tasks.”

It’s true that this device will do more than open a can of soup.

This is not the only tool you will need to make your way through the next Poptropica adventure. Tomorrow we will show you another inventory item that you are certain to have a blast using.

Well now we have a guess to what the island maybe called Coderkid on the Poptropica Help Blog said that it may be called “Steamworks Island”.

Now the creator’s are showing us sneak peeks of a new island! YAY!  Now look at this cool gadget the creator’s are showing us:

New island sneak peek week!

Many of you have noticed that there is a new Poptropica island in the works. We’ve decided to share a few sneak peeks of this mysterious, mechanical island.

You’ll need a few gadgets to get past some tricky puzzles and wacky, wild monsters — and I’m not talking about your dad’s pocket knife.

Here are a couple of gizmos that you won’t find in your home toolbox. One of these will help you on your quest to victory, cheering fans, and instant popularity…well, at least victory.

“Multi Tool”? Hmm, what do you think it does?

Come back all week for more sneak peeks. Then, on Friday, we’ll announce the name of the new island. You’ll get it here first, so keep those eyeballs glued to the blog for more exciting peeks.

Well guys it looks like we are going to be using this tool on the new island cool huh?

Here is part 5 along with a video:

Behind the scenes of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird, part five

With the colors and the scale of the Phoenix Warbird in place, it’s time for a few final tweaks to the design. For that extra “oomph,” the creators give the ship a set of fierce-looking talons.

And it’s done! Starting with one basic idea, the creators sketch out different possibilities, choose a direction, and then refine and improve the design until the final version you see here.

Here’s how it looks next to an actual Poptropican.

Huge, isn’t it?

And here’s a look at the Phoenix Warbird when it takes to the seas.

Pirates of Skullduggery Island, tremble in fear!

Quite a journey from concept to reality, huh? How far we’ve come:

Of course, seeing the Phoenix Warbird in pictures is one thing. Taking the helm of this mighty vessel is quite another.

Have you earned enough doubloons in Skullduggery Island to buy the Phoenix Warbird? If not, what are you waiting for? Play Skullduggery Island now!

Here is part 4 on Behind The Scenes Of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird By Captain Crawfish:

Behind the scenes of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird, part 4

You’ve already seen how the mighty Phoenix Warbird started life as a simple pencil sketch. (Wait, you haven’t? Check out the first part of ourbehind-the-scenes look at Skullduggery Island.)

The creators worked hard to get the details right, and now it’s time to give the Phoenix Warbird a sprinkling of that old Poptropica magic.

The designers color in the black-and-white outline they made earlier. They create a simple background of water and sky to demonstrate how the ship will appear in Skullduggery Island. And, as before, they add a little reference box that shows how big the Warbird is compared to a Poptropican.

The Phoenix Warbird is almost ready to set sail on Skullduggery Island!

CAPTAIN CRAWFISH

Here is part 3 of Behind The Scenes Of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird by Captain Crawfish:

Behind the scenes of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird, part 3

Poptropica fans already know that the Phoenix Warbird is the strongest ship on Skullduggery Island. But it didn’t always look that way! The designers went through several rounds of revisions, tweaking existing ideas and coming up with new ones.

Finally, they had settled on the basic design and set to work putting it into Poptropica. The first step: a black-and-white wireframe, which adapts the earlier sketches into the Poptropica style.

See that little box above the ship and to the right? That’s to help the designers remember how large the ship is in comparison to your Poptropican.

The ship isn’t finished yet. There are more design tweaks to be made, not to mention the most fun part: Coloring!

Here is part 2 of Behind The Scenes Of  Skulldugery Island: The Phoenix Warbird by Captain Crawfish:

Behind the scenes of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird, part 2

On Skullduggery Island, players start with a junky old sloop, and earn doubloons to buy bigger and better boats. Early on, the Poptropica creators knew they wanted the most powerful ship to have an animal theme.

Even so, there were still dozens and dozens of smaller decisions to make. Should the boat look realistic or fantastical? How big should it be? Should it be scary?

To explore the possibilities, the designers made a few more sketches.

After another round of discussion (okay, arguments), the creators settled on a direction and set to work on the final version.

There two new post today one by Captain Crawfish the other by Hazmat Hermit. Here they are:

Behind the scenes of Skullduggery Island: The Phoenix Warbird

If you’ve earned enough doubloons on Skullduggery Island to buy the Phoenix Warbird, then you know it’s the fiercest craft around, even more than Captain Crawfish’s ship.

But how did the Phoenix Warbird go from idea to reality? First, one of the Poptropica creators had the brilliant notion of making the most powerful ship on Skullduggery Island have a bird theme. To explain his idea, he drew this sketch:

Neat, huh? But that was just the beginning of a long journey.

Over the next couple of days, we’ll show you more. Stay tuned!
